The Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968 was very similar to Hungary's own situation in 1956. Czech leaders wanted to reform their communist nation so that they would be more "modern". This, in the eyes of the Soviets, meant Czechoslovakia was trying to become more Westernized, which would have weakened the Soviet Unions image of power. The crushing of another reform movement within the Iron Curtain led the USSR to be shunned by nations all over the world. This also led to increased discontent within the Soviet Union.
